Thanks to all who helped make this possible.

As the 2nd half of September approaches, we here at PDXCritique have not been able to find a meeting space to host us yet. We got tons of great ideas at the our social meetup last month and have been contacting people left and right. All of the places we have contacted have been very nice, but have some requirements we have not been able to meet.
If anyone is a member of NedSpace or an employee of Jive Software, we would love to chat with you further.
All suggestions welcome.
The topic of the evening was a brainstorming on where to point this group (locations for meetings, how to brand/advertise, ect). Great ideas were passed around like hot cakes and we’ll likely see some changes in the very near future. Thanks again for all that were able to make it out and helped make this group the wonderful collective that it is.
Back in April I got about half way through a review of a play I saw. I had decided that it would be good to begin posting my opinions for things I had experienced. I chickened out. I plan on finishing it and hitting “post” before the next PDX Critique meet.
I mulled over what happened and realized that while I’m good at throwing out verbal opinions in a group setting like PDX Critique where people can tell me directly that it’s ludicrous there is a hesitancy to put these opinions out in solid form. Partially because I know that through discussion I can be convinced that maybe __ wasn’t insipid.
PDX Critique is a comfortable environment to brainstorm ideas. It’s a back and forth with people exchanging and growing. I don’t know if the blog can capture that same sense but I’d like it to.
We’re meeting again on Friday, 8/28/09. I’ll post my theater review at least two days before that. Please don’t just read it and take it as script. Treat it like we do anything here at PDX Critique and speak your mind.
This could become a new way for people to present written work for feedback that is less tied to being able to make it on a day of the week. Since our next meeting is about the future of PDX Critique let’s experiment with this and see how it goes.
Next post within eight days…
We will be meeting Friday August, 28th at 6 pm at the Lucky Lab, S.E (Hawthorne) to discuss our future. We would love if you could join us and help us sort out meeting spots, what you would like to see happen with this group, meeting times and any other things that might be on your mind.
This is a social meeting, but if you have any things you need reviewed, we would love to help you out. Just let us know.
Event details:
That’s a very good question. Summer hit most of the us that run PDX Critique like a ton of bricks. We lost our dearly beloved CubeSpace, ran into some health issues and two of us bought a house. All of which amounts to major time suckage. Enough with the excuses already though right?
We are all committed to the heart and soul of PDX Critique and hope to at very least have a social gathering for the month of August where we can sit around and discuss with our wonderful attendees what they would like to see the future of PDX Critique look like.
We will be meeting at OSBridge on Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 7:00 – 8:30pm in Marquam, more details can be found here: http://opensourcebridge.org/sessions/285
See you there.
As most of you know already, CubeSpace will no longer exist after June 12th, 2009. For the full story please go here.
We will truly miss CubeSpace and the valuable resource they have been for us over the past year. However, we must look forward to the future and that means finding a new meeting space.
We are seeking your opinion on where a good place to meet would be? What matters to you in a meeting space? Know of any places right now?
In the meantime we look forward to OSBridge next week, we will be taking our June meeting there as a Birds of a Feather talk. More details to come as soon as we have them.
CubeSpace has hosted the PDXCritique meetings since our inception. We are truly grateful to them, not only for hosting us, but for fostering such a great community here in Portland.
Now the time has come when they need help from the community they have helped create. Let’s show them just how much we care.

Little did I realize last night that our April meeting marked our one year anniversary, so happy anniversary to us. We have reviewed a lot of designs, food and even some poetry this last year and I am very proud to be a part of this amazing group of people.
We had 10 people for the meeting and a few joined us at the bar afterwords. First, Bill Burcham presented thoughtpropulsion.com, a site for his personal business that focuses on consulting and iphone development. We spent a lot of time on this site and went through each section. It was nice to allocate two slots to one site, I felt it let us really get to 90% of the site and offer a well rounded feedback.
One of our presenters got stuck in Central Oregon, but Stacey Dawson stepped up the plate and offered up her resume for review.
All in all a fabulous meeting of great minds. Thanks to Ben for the great photo.
